As part of a technology-driven agricultural initiative that is financed by the Kerala Startup Mission, Uptown Urban Farms Pvt Ltd will develop the first and largest automated hydroponic farm in the state in the state’s capital. This will take place in the next months (KSUM).
The completely automated hydroponic farm that was constructed in Karamana on a block of land measuring 16,000 square feet was officially opened for business by the General Education Minister V Sivankutty. Hydroponics, which is a way of growing plants without requiring soil and instead making use of a water-based fertiliser solution, is helpful in producing pesticide-free vegetables of a high quality in spaces that are not very large. This method not only ensures high harvests, but it also requires very little water, which makes it possible to cultivate plants even in areas that do not have fertile soil.

uFarms is an adaptable Internet of Things farm automation system that was built by a group of eight young people approximately one and a half years ago. It provides this industrial hydroponic farm with fully automated farming solutions, which have been of great help to the farm. With the help of sensors installed on the farm and a smartphone, the technology that was developed by uFarms has the capability to automate the mixing of fertiliser, the dosing of fertiliser, the fertigation process, and the climate control systems on the farm.
