Assam Tourism held a B2B tourism roadshow in Mumbai to promote film tourism in the state.

Assam tourism held a roadshow at the Grand Hyatt in Mumbai today to showcase the state as the most film tourist-friendly with single-window clearances for filming. Assam Tourism Minister Jayanta Malla Baruah opened the B2B event. ATDC Chairman, Vice Chairman, Additional Chief Secretary, Secretary, and other Assam Tourism authorities attended the ceremony. Assam and Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporations inked an MoU to promote tourism in both states. Shri Rituparna Baruah, Chairman, ATDC, encouraged tourists to Assam and promised a lifelong experience in his welcoming speech.

Shri Jayanta Malla Baruah, Minister, Public Health Engineering, Skill Development Employment & Entrepreneurship and Tourism, Government of Assam, said, “We are putting a lot of effort into promoting film tourism in the state and making it the most film tourism-friendly state by facilitating shooting permissions with single-window clearances for film projects and providing necessary support to attract filmmakers. Spiritual, wildlife, river, and adventure tourism are popular in Assam, which is well connected and calm.

Kumar Padmapani Bora, IRS, Secretary, Tourism and Managing Director of Assam Tourism Development Corporation, said, “Assam’s tourism sector has achieved 511 % and 763 % rise in domestic and foreign tourists’ inflow respectively in 2022 compared to 2021 as per January 2023 data. The State’s New Tourism Policy prioritises EoDB and film tourism single-window approval. The film industry and tourism stakeholders will help us aggressively implement the strategy and market Assam as the perfect film tourism destination. Government has inked big hospitality projects by Tata and Hyatt in Kaziranga, Manas, and other sites with New Tourism Policy 2022, prepared in conjunction with World Bank. Tourism has been given industry status by the state, which will stimulate private investment.
Famous Indian actor Adil Hussain stated, “I am so very glad that Government of Assam, specially the Department of Tourism is adopting the much sought and much needed effort for Placing Assam in the map of Film Shooting Tourism.
I commend Honourable Minister of Tourism Assam Mr Jayanta Malla Barua and Secretary, Tourism and MD, ATDC Kumar Padmapani Bora for their effort. I believe Hindi film and OTT platforms will explore Assam’s unspoiled natural beauty and rich culture in their next productions.
I hope Assam becomes a film tourism destination and introduces it to the globe in my lifetime. Also expect the Assam government to do their best to keep their part of the deal and prove that Assam is truly awesome.”

The roadshow began with a powerful video about Assam tourism. It showed how Indian tourists can enjoy Assam’s most famous attractions. The film also covered tourism activities in Assam and how to enjoy them.

It highlighted Assam’s unique biodiversity, colourful culture, and beautiful waterways, woods, mountains, and rivers, which offer endless filming and tourist potential.

The event featured a panel discussion on “Assam as a promising film tourism destination” with panellists Ms. Shobha Sant, Head Content Alliances, Jio Studios; Mr. Vaibhav Modi, Group Head Ad Sales – VAOO, Mumbai; Mr. Jinesh Shah – Head, Originals, Roy Kapur Films; Mr. Mahesh Manjrekar, Indian actor, film director, screenwriter, and producer; Mr. Sumeet Kapahi, Director, Abundantia Entertainment; Mr. Abhimanyu Ray, Casting Director; Papon, Mr. Padm Adil Hussain and India Today Executive Editor Kaushik Deka moderated the panel.

The gathering also discussed Assam’s sustainable development and natural resource conservation, as well as how to promote the state’s tourism potential and attract international tourists.

Assam Tourism’s state-of-the-art website lets incoming travellers book hotels, safaris, and more online. Assam is one of few Indian states that offer tourism industry status. Assam is dedicated to sustainable and responsible tourism for tourists and investors.
